The municipality of Albox has kicked off its Holy Week 2024. The brotherhoods of Albox welcomed this Sunday one of the most solemn acts, prior to the big days, in the Parish of Santa Maria.
The presentation of the official poster of Holy Week 2024, the work of the painter Antonio Molina, with the Christ of Humility and Silence as the protagonist, will be an image to remember.
It is not by chance that this year, the patron saint of the Paso Negro will be used to announce the Holy Week in Alboja. Each year one of the brotherhoods of the municipality is in charge of the organisation of the events announcing its Passion Week, and on this occasion, it is the Paso Negro and the members of the Brotherhood of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, who are in charge of all the details.
After the celebration of the Holy Mass celebrated by the parish priest Antonio José Villegas, the painting was unveiled by Antonio Molina, a renowned painter from Alboja, who has captured on canvas the image of the Christ of Humility and Silence.
After taking several photographs, the author has achieved a realistic image which is moving as soon as you look at it. «I do not consider myself the sole author of the work, as I have counted on the collaboration of my wife and children, who have always contributed constructive criticism during the making of the painting», he assured during his intervention.
The temple was filled with members of all the brotherhoods, Albojeneses who love their Holy Week, and authorities, among others, members of the government team in the Town Hall of Albox, headed by the mayoress, María del Mar Alfonso, who did not want to miss such an important event. «The surname Molina in Albox means having art. The poster is a work of art and will form part of our town’s Easter Week heritage», said the mayoress after the presentation.
Guillermo Fernández on guitar provided the music. The perfect accompaniment for the first of the events of the Easter Week of Albox 2024.
The next event will be on 10 March, the date scheduled for this year’s official Proclamation. Carlos Bérbel will be the Pregonero of this year’s edition. The former Elder Brother of the Paso Negro for many years, he will officially start the Semana Santa of Albox, declared of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia.
