The municipality of Lúcar is to begin emergency works in the next few days to restore the original state of this street by building a retaining wall thanks to the help of the Provincial Council. The vice-president, Fernando Giménez, and the mayor of this Almanzora municipality, Manuel López, visited the area affected by the collapse of a retaining wall which had collapsed due to a water failure.
Specifically, these emergency works have a budget of 20,000 euros which will be financed 100% with funds from the Provincial Council of Almeria. The landslide has affected a stretch of street in which the road surface has broken and detached from the adjoining land and has destroyed the street lighting.
The works to be carried out will consist of removing the rubble and cleaning up, as well as the construction of a reinforced concrete retaining wall and a concrete block enclosure coated on the outside with cement mortar and painted white. In addition, a new lighting conduit is planned to repair the damage, as well as new luminaires and a new road surface.

The vice-president emphasised that thanks to the Provincial Council’s technical services, the project and the report have been drawn up in a short space of time and the aid has been granted so that the works can become a reality in the next few days: «The Provincial Council, as a council of councils, has to be close to the municipalities to provide a response and a solution to their problems. The mayor made a request and today we are here to tell him that he now has the money to start the work that will put an end to the cut in one of the streets of this municipality», he explained.
He also thanked the Municipal Assistance Department for its agility in finding the best technical solution to this problem: «The residents of Lúcar can rest assured that the Provincial Council will always be at the side of the council to improve their quality of life».
For his part, the Mayor thanked the Provincial Council for the speed and attention it has given to the emergency works that are as necessary as they are important.
Façade of the Town Hall and promotion of the Balsa de Cela reservoir
During his visit to the municipality, Fernando Giménez also checked the results of one of the projects carried out through the aid that the Provincial Council grants to all municipalities with less than 1,000 inhabitants. This is the rehabilitation and enhancement of the façade of the Lúcar Town Hall.
In the meeting he held with the mayor and the deputy mayor, they also thanked him for the boost provided by the 8,000 euros granted each year to promote activities for the promotion of the Balsa de Cela.
