
The number of people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) in Almeria at the end of January has increased by 935 (1.83%) compared to December, bringing the total number of unemployed to 52,007 people. This slight increase in unemployment is very common in January in Almeria as a consequence of the end of the Christmas shopping season.
However, if we compare the number of unemployed with the same month last year, i.e. January 2023, we can see that the good trend in employment performance is maintained, as today there are -2,390 less unemployed than exactly one year ago, a decrease of -4.39%.
By gender, male unemployment stood at 21,565 unemployed men in January, while the total number of unemployed women was 30,442.

By age, the figure for youth unemployment, i.e. for those under 25, is 4,320 unemployed. Among those over 25, the number of unemployed is 47,687.
Of the total number of unemployed, 10,463 are foreign nationals.
Unemployment by sector
By economic sectors, registered unemployment increased slightly in all sectors compared to last month, highlighting, logically, the services sector, with 757 more unemployed, followed by agriculture (113), the group without previous employment (62), and industry (4). Only in construction has there been a decrease with one less unemployed worker (-1).
The unemployment structure by sector in the province of Almeria is as follows: services 33,975 unemployed, unemployed without previous employment 5,791, agriculture 5,494, construction 4,675 and industry 2,072.
Contracts signed
The total number of contracts registered during the month of January in Almeria was 18,607, which means 458 contracts more than in the month of December (2.52%) and – 1,360 contracts less than in the month of January 2023 (-6.81%).
Of the total number of contracts, 10,845 were signed in the services sector, 5,804 in agriculture, 1109 in construction and 849 in industry.
On the other hand, following the trend since the labour reform at the end of 2021, of the number of permanent contracts signed in January, 10,082, i.e. 54.18%, were higher than the number of temporary contracts, which were 8,525, or 45.82% of the total number of contracts signed.
Foreign nationals signed 7,926 contracts.
