The National Police have arrested a 54-year-old woman in Cartagena (Murcia) for allegedly stealing various items of jewellery belonging to an elderly person whom she periodically helped with household chores, according to sources from the Corps in a statement.
The investigation began when an 83-year-old woman reported, through her son, the disappearance of gold jewellery that she had stored in a jewellery box inside her home.
The officers focused on the woman who had recently been helping the complainant with her housework and was in possession of a copy of the house keys.
The agents’ enquiries led them to locate 33 of the missing jewels, of great economic and sentimental value, in different precious metal shops in Cartagena.
The arrested woman, a Spanish national, was handed over to the Duty Court of Cartagena so that the appropriate precautionary measures could be ordered.
