This past Sunday the XIV edition of the Almond Blossom Route took place in the municipality of Albox in the El Saliente de Albox area.
Organised by the Cultural Association ‘Somos Albojenses’, the Albox Town Council and Mojacar Sport Aventura-DGSE Turismo Activo, the walk was 10 kilometres long and of medium difficulty.
The walkers started the route from the Saliente Sanctuary with the aim of enjoying the white landscape offered by the almond blossom; “just as the Jerte Valley is known throughout Spain for the cherry blossom, the Sierra de las Estancias is intended to be known as the Valley of the Almond Blossom”, according to Somos Albojenses. Almeria is one of the provinces with more hectares of almond trees, about 80,000 and the area of the Sierra de la Estancias in its southern and northern slopes concentrates the largest production of almonds in Spain, being also the municipality of Oria, the town that has more almond trees in the whole country,” they say.
The Bartolomé Marín Hall of the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Saliente, was chosen in this edition to welcome all the walkers who, halfway along the route, enjoyed a typical breakfast, consisting of almond cakes, almond mollars, oranges and local wine.
The route also had the collaboration of the Diocesan Sanctuary of El Saliente and the Nueva Aventura de Oria and Desamparados de Albox Mountain Clubs.
