The Carnival of Santiago de la Ribera said goodbye yesterday, Sunday, with the parade of «comparsas» in which nearly 1,000 people participated in the 30 local and foreign groups that filled the Mar Menor Avenue with fantasy and rhythm. Thousands of people watched the parade on some sections of its two-kilometre route from the Cuatro Picos roundabout to the Barnuevo esplanade, also crossing the town centre.
The carnival marquee, which throughout the week has hosted the most important events of the carnival programme, was the final point to say goodbye to this edition of the festival, which still has its last chapter this year in the Summer Carnival when the seahorse, the symbol of the carnival, will be set on fire.
For the moment the winning comparsas of the parade held on Sunday were, for the camparsa Shambala, Era Alta (Murcia) in first place followed by Kissamba de Mula (Murcia), Tamba Taya, Mula (Murcia) and Kebanna, San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia). In the children’s category the winners were CEIP «Fulgencio Ruiz», in first place, followed by CEIP «Nuestra Señora de Loreto».
