The Cardiology Service at La Inmaculada Hospital in Huércal-Overa has installed a new state-of-the-art ultrasound scanner for outpatient consultations, which will allow it to offer better care to outpatients. The Regional Delegate for Health and Consumer Affairs, Juan de la Cruz Belmonte, visited the room where the new equipment has been installed, which represents a «significant improvement in terms of the functions it offers».
As the delegate pointed out, the installation of this equipment «will allow cardiology specialists to improve their workflows and increase efficiency by providing them with advanced diagnostic tools that quickly give clear information about the patient’s condition. In addition, it allows the patient to receive complete care without having to return for testing on another day».
Echocardiography is a diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound to produce high-quality two- or three-dimensional images of the heart’s anatomy. By producing moving images in real time, it provides insight into the functioning of the heart valves and muscle, as well as detecting heart conditions secondary to extra-cardiac disease. In this sense, echocardiography is currently the most widely used diagnostic test due to its diagnostic nature, ease of use, reproducibility and continuous improvement of its features.

It should be noted that, in addition to increasing the number of machines to cover a greater number of patients, the incorporation of this technology makes it possible to carry out new techniques for the benefit of the population, which are strongly recommended in good practice guidelines for high-risk diseases.
