Laroya presents its great event: from Cervantes to the Fires

Laroya is preparing to live this coming Saturday, April 13, an event where it will highlight its values, customs and why not, the events for which it has transcended.
“Discover Laroya: from Cervantes to the Fires”, is the title with which the Town Council invites the visitor to know beyond the obvious, in a village that is a reference for its rural tourism, but which they say Miguel de Cervantes went through in his role as collector of the royal treasury within what was then considered the jurisdiction of Baza.
The Fires of Laroya, also captured the attention of the whole country in the summer of 1945, when for circumstances not yet determined, piles of wheat burned in the highest part of the municipality, burned the jacket of a Civil Guard and even a room where the sun did not give; more than 100 fires in a month. If one thing is certain, according to the chronicles of the time, is that these fires were not man-made.
Its festivities of San Ramon and the relationship of Moors and Christians, associate the municipality with others in the area to enhance these festivities. The quartets, are an essential element when conceiving the celebration.
“Thanks to the support of the Provincial Council and the efforts of the City Council, we are recovering these festivities where the youngest begin to make them their own,” says Mayor Dolores Moreno.
Throughout Saturday attendees can enjoy a craft market and local products, a bar service and live music.
