The PP of Cuevas asks about a local police pistol “stolen” at the beginning of March.

This past Monday morning, representatives of the Popular group in the Town Hall of Cuevas del Almanzora, registered a request for reports addressed to the Mayor Antonio Fernández Liria (PSOE), referring to “the theft of a weapon from one of the agents and the concern that the facts have caused in much of the population and the staff of the Town Hall itself,” according to the letter to which La Comarca Noticias has had access.

The PP’s concern stems from the events of 2 March, when one of the members of the local police force discovered that he did not have his personal regulation weapon, “a Glock Model 26 with ammunition”, which had disappeared from the police station itself, according to reliable sources related to the case.

According to these same sources, a day later, on 3 March, the officer who “misplaced” the weapon filed the corresponding complaint with the Guardia Civil, and almost two weeks later, on 15 March, the weapon was returned to its owner by the alleged perpetrator of the theft, supposedly another police officer.

On 20 March, the Court Nº3 of Vera, decreed the provisional dismissal of the proceedings, according to TSJA sources consulted on the facts.

Now it is the Popular Party who wants to know what really happened with the weapon of a municipal policeman, and for this, appealing to article 77 of the law 7/1985 and the right to public information, asks the municipal government for the file or proceedings that describe the account of the facts. The resolution of the conflict in judicial proceedings. The official written communications initiated between the Police Headquarters and the Mayor’s Office and/or the Department of Public Safety regarding the facts. Report on the viewing of the security cameras issued after becoming aware of the facts. Ballistics report on the missing weapon. Measures adopted and communicated in relation to the facts, addressed to the officers involved in this incident. Communications, if any, with officers or their union representatives, if any, in the event of having occurred. Having knowledge that there has been at least one meeting between the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Security with a group of officers, please provide agreements relating to this meeting.

Finally, the PP asks the Mayor to convene a Security Board in which representatives of this political group (PP) could be present to analyse the current security situation.

Several questions remain unanswered: where was the gun during this time, what was the explanation once it was returned, was the gun returned together with the ammunition, will the government and the opposition address an issue whose seriousness is of concern to a large number of the municipality’s residents, and will the government and the opposition address an issue whose seriousness is of concern to a large number of the municipality’s residents.
