The Guardia Civil de la Comandancia de Almería is carrying out the controlled detonation of a grenade that was located by the owner of a private orchard in Chirivel while she was ploughing the land.
Yesterday, 01 May 2024, the Command and Service Coordination Centre of the Guardia Civil of the Almeria Command received a call via the 062 emergency telephone from a resident of the municipality of Chirivel, where she reported that while she was ploughing the land of her garden, she had located an explosive device, so the Guardia Civil patrol closest to the site was notified to verify the facts.
On arrival, the Guardia Civil personnel were able to verify that it was indeed a pineapple grenade, so they proceeded to set up a security perimeter around the device and activated the EDEX-NBRQ explosives deactivation unit of the Guardia Civil Command in Almería.
Once the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team arrived on site, they verified that it was a grenade of the type typically used throughout history with different initiation systems and that the explosive device was complete and active. Due to the fact that the place does not meet the necessary safety conditions, it is moved in a controlled and safe manner to an area that has the appropriate characteristics to carry out its controlled detonation.
The Guardia Civil Command of Almeria reiterates that, in the event of finding any explosive device, the safest thing to do is NOT TO TOUCH, NOT TO MANIPULATE, to delimit the area and TO NOTIFY WITH THE MAXIMUM URGENCY THE EMERGENCY SERVICES 062.
