The fight for the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca train in Granada demands the intervention of the Government Subdelegate

Representatives of the Asociación Amigos del Ferrocarril Comarca de Baza and the Plataforma Comarca de Guadix por el Tren, have met with the Subdelegado del Gobierno de España en Granada, José Antonio Montilla, to request his intervention before the Ministry of Transport for the positive completion of the Informative Study for the reopening of the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca railway line, as well as its inclusion in the route of the Mediterranean Railway Corridor.

The railway collectives “have reproached” the delay in the works of the informative study, despite the numerous reports that support its viability, its necessity and even its profitability at economic and social level, and have given the Subdelegate the main “trump cards” for the return of the train to the northern regions of Granada-Almeria: it has guaranteed energy supply by the 400 Kv power line (already in operation), a very easy orography without the need for major engineering works, a “cheap” work (a billion for 160 kms. of electrified railway track), the strategic logistical potential linked to rail transport of goods in connection with the ports of Algeciras, Malaga, Motril, Almeria and Valencia, as well as the elimination of polluting emissions by removing heavy vehicles from the roads.

For his part, José Antonio Montilla has undertaken, joining the Subdelegation of Granada with the Government Delegation in Andalusia, to mediate with the Transport Advisory Council to achieve the reopening of the railway line.
