The municipality of Albox opens the 53rd edition of the Certamen Nacional de Teatro Aficionado, one of the longest-running amateur theatre events held in Spain. The event, which is part of the Certamen Nacional de Arte 2024, will put the finishing touch to a few weeks in which hundreds of people from all over the Almanzora region have visited the municipality to enjoy different artistic proposals.
The local company ‘Las Marías y su Punto’ are in charge of opening this year’s edition on Wednesday. A luxury performance with their play “Mi suegra se ha perdido” which, although out of competition, has the support of many fans who will surely fill the Auditorio Grupo de Teatro Muñoz Seca.
From the 16th to the 19th and from the 23rd to the 26th of May, there will be daily performances of all kinds of genres aimed at a general audience. Amateur theatre groups, but of a very high level, which have been selected to participate in this renowned competition with prizes of 3000 euros for the winner. 2000 for the runner-up. 1500 euros for the third prize. In addition, the best actor or actress, direction and editing will also be recognised. Each of them with 500 euros in prize money.
The mayoress of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, invites all the neighbours of the Almanzora. “I am convinced that during these two weeks the people of Albox and many neighbours from all over the region will visit our town and enjoy the best theatre in Spain. It is the longest running event, it is culture, and we will continue to support it”.

This Thursday, 16 May, the ‘Compañía Fantabulosa’ from Granada will perform with their comedy “La vida resuelta”.
Friday, 17th May, the Sevillian company ‘Escaparteatro’ will present “Dirty Money”.
Saturday, 18th May, it will be the turn of Madrid’s ‘Maru-Jasp’ and the comedy “El manual de la buena esposa”.
On Sunday, 19th May, the audience will be able to enjoy “Un cadáver inesperado” (An unexpected corpse). A play of humour and mystery brought by the Sevillian company ‘Contiguo Teatro’.
On Thursday 23rd May, theatre lovers will enjoy a tragicomedy by the Burgos-based ‘El Duende de Lerma’ and their play “Mil amaneceres”.
Friday, 24 May, “Ne me quitte pas”. A drama performed on stage by the Alicante-based company ‘Carasses’.
On Saturday, 25th May, it will be the turn of “La muerte y la doncella” (Death and the Maiden). A drama by ‘Gamacha Teatro’ from La Rioja.
And on Sunday, the last performance, with the play “Cyrano de Bergerac” by the Teatre del Talión Company (Lleida).
All performances start at 7 p.m.
General admission has a symbolic price of four euros, two euros for students and senior citizens.
