High-voltage flight in the fourth release of the national pigeon fanciers’ championship

The Junka, a pigeon from Murcia whose owner is Diego Sánchez, led the release on Tuesday as part of the 72nd edition of the Sporting Pigeon Championship, Copa Su Majestad El Rey, which is being held in the municipality of Fines, thanks to the efforts of the Royal Colombiculture Federation, the support of the local Town Hall and the Provincial Council and the logistics offered by the local San Esteban club.

“The pigeon does not know the place, it has never been there before and during the first hour of the flight it will look for orange trees and orchards, moving from one place to another”, said Sánchez, owner of La Jauka, who misled several pigeons at different stages of their flight.

At the end of the release, half an hour ahead of schedule, the pigeon fancier from Murcia was satisfied with the work done by his pupil, “the pigeon did well, it touched all kinds of trees and worked and played with the pigeons very well until it made a very difficult exit in a garrufero and left twenty pigeons deceived. At 20.06 the pigeons stopped in some pine trees next to the motorway and the referees, for the good of the animals and for the safety of the people, decided to cut the release. In principle, the pigeon has lived up to expectations”.

For José Vicente Cervelló, vice-president of the Real Federación Española de Colombicultura, “the pigeon went out very well stopping in different trees until at the end it changed sector, it went to an outside area and made a stop where the Cosentino company is, in a weeping tree looking for the green that it usually touches, with the bad luck that it was next to the motorway. Logically there is a danger for both people and pigeons, so both the referees and the organising committee have taken the decision to suspend the race, especially for the physical safety of the people.

“The general rules of the competition contemplate these cases where there is a high degree of danger for the pigeons and for the people, and this is the reason why we have suspended the event,” said Cervelló.

As for the development of the championship, the national leader understands that “the pigeons are doing what we were looking for. The pigeons are noble pigeons, it is very difficult for them to get rid of the pigeons. Today there has been a rebound, the pigeons have come back very well and they are making it very difficult. We have three races left and I am convinced that things are going to happen because they are very good pigeons. The pigeons are very well prepared but the pigeons are at a very high level, they are very well prepared, they are very well trained. Every day it is more difficult to get rid of them. They are always very skilful and when there are rebounds they rectify very well. That is the reality of what we are seeing”.

Next Saturday at 7 p.m. it is the turn of the pigeon Infartos, owned by Tirso and José María.
