The slogans «Reopening the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca train is viable, profitable and necessary» and «The train can and must return», presided over a great railway day on Saturday 18 May at the Bastetana station, where the headquarters of the Asociación Amigos del Ferrocarril Comarca de Baza (Baza Region Railway Friends Association) was inaugurated, a wonderful mini-train closed circuit with three locomotives and several wagons (which has delighted children and adults) has been set up and the claim for the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca railway line has been insisted on, asking for the early successful completion of the Informative Study for its reopening and its inclusion in the route of the Mediterranean Railway Corridor.
According to Antonio Francisco Martínez, president of the association ‘Asociación Amigos del Ferrocarril’, «this headquarters is a dream come true, which will make the railway more present in the daily life of the area and will help to achieve the main goal: the return of the train to these regions».
For his part, the Mayor of Baza, Pedro J. Ramos, thanked the group for their work and expressed the support of the City Council in the railway claim. José Antonio Lucha, president of the Association of Businessmen of the Altiplano de Granada, Pepe Ferrer, driver of the mini steam engine, and Agustín Cánovas, railway activist from Baza, also spoke in front of a large number of citizens and social groups.
