Cosentino launches EARTHIC® by Silestone®XM in collaboration with Formafantasma

Cosentino launches EARTHIC® by Silestone®XM, the result of a research project on the formulation of materials and sustainability carried out in collaboration with the Italian studio Formafantasma. With EARTHIC®, the Spanish firm uses non-conventional and recycled materials to create a new concept of sustainable surface that has become a benchmark in its industry. In this way, Cosentino consolidates its long-term commitment to sustainability, and seeks to tangibly minimise the impact of surfaces for design in the future.

“EARTHIC® aims to raise awareness of the importance of design beyond aesthetics, prioritising sustainable production processes. Our collaboration with Cosentino is a design exercise from the inside out, in which aesthetic choices correspond directly to ethical and sustainable choices,” say Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin of Formafantasma.

EARTHIC® by Silestone®XM was officially advanced last April, being the protagonist of the EARTHIC® LAB installation that Cosentino showed during the Milan Design Week, and which won the Special Mention in Technology at the Fuorisalone Award 2024. The collection falls into the Silestone®XM category, which distinguishes Silestone® colours and collections produced with a maximum silica content of 10%. In addition, and thanks to HybriQ+® technology, it is manufactured with 99% recycled water and 100% certified renewable electricity.

EARTHIC® by Silestone®XM is a capsule collection that comes to the market with a new design concept based on a composition that incorporates up to 30% of reused materials such as recycled glass, PET, bioresin and Dekton® fragments. Post-industrial recycled glass is used, becoming an integral part of the surface and shaping its design from within. Plastic bottles are transformed into distinctive flakes that reveal their unique characteristics on the surface. It also avoids the extraction and use of new raw materials by incorporating discarded Dekton® fragments. And finally, the pioneering use of a bio-resin (16-23%) derived from vegetable oil and recycled cooking oil.

EARTHIC® is divided into two series of colours

Three-colour series that reflects the origin and provenance of materials, as well as the process of transforming recycled elements into something new.

FFROM 01: A grey surface flecked with white fragments of recycled PET creates a subtle but intricate pattern that draws the eye and adds depth to the composition.

FFROM 02: A darker shade of grey elegantly punctuated with white accents, creating a visually appealing contrast. A shade of grey with a sense of modernity and minimalism.

FFROM 03: A hypnotic and elegant anthracite background with recycled PET flakes scattered across the surface reminiscent of the night sky or a geological specimen.

Patterns and colours that capture the essence of the material in its most authentic state, combined with shapes that express a new aesthetic.

RAW A: A colour endowed with a soft dark veined pattern on a white background that reveals an intricate design evoking a sense of natural elegance, reminiscent of the refined stones found in nature.

RAW G: A serene and natural concrete canvas with subtle coppery hints intertwined with hazy veins that add a sense of fluidity.

RAW D: A dark stone background provides an ambience of tranquility and solid elegance. Diffuse random streaks of bronze weave through a charcoal landscape.
