The Regional Minister of Health visits the La Inmaculada Hospital

The Regional Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Andalusian Regional Government, Catalina García, has acknowledged the work of the 1,011 professionals at La Inmaculada Hospital, located in the North Health Management Area of Almería. “Thanks to their commitment and effort, in 2023 they performed 3,355 surgeries, 53,752 outpatient consultations and 169,288 diagnostic tests. And despite the fact that the Northern Area of Almeria is an area of difficult coverage, and even in some locations of very difficult coverage, they offer quality care and warmth”. She said this during a visit to the centre, where she saw first-hand how it works and was able to meet with the directors and managers of the Area, accompanied by the regional delegate, Juan de la Cruz Belmonte, and the mayor of Huércal-Overa, Domingo Fernández, among other authorities.

She also thanked the professionals of the Torrecárdenas University Hospital who support the ordinary and extraordinary activity of the regional hospital, with the aim of improving accessibility. “In a situation with a serious shortage of professionals, such as the one Andalusia and Spain are experiencing today, this type of collaboration is key. It is essential that we all row in the same direction to offer better care to the public,” he argued.

He also thanked the professionals for their hard work during the pandemic. “They lived not only with the virus, facing the risk and pressure on a daily basis, but also with the transformations that were carried out in the hospitals. The works to create double circuits, as was done in this hospital with the new observation ward, the refurbishment of the emergency department or the construction of isolated boxes in the day hospital or paediatrics, were necessary to protect patients and staff. Their ability to adapt quickly to these changes and continue to provide quality care was truly admirable,” he said.

The Northern Health Management Area of Almeria has 73 centres in which healthcare is provided: the La Inmaculada hospital centre and 72 Primary Care centres distributed in seven basic health areas. In terms of staff, this area has 1,640 active workers, 1,011 at La Inmaculada Hospital (of which 144 are doctors and 315 nurses) and 629 in Primary Care (184 doctors and 118 nurses). In addition, this Area includes 41 municipalities in the regions of Levante, Almanzora and Los Vélez, and serves a population of around 155,000 people.
