Road surface repair works on several sections of the A-92 road through Vélez-Rubio.

The A-92 dual carriageway is undergoing rehabilitation works by reinforcing the asphalt pavement at several kilometre points and on both carriageways as it passes through the municipality of Vélez-Rubio. The work, which has already been completed, forms part of the Annual Road Maintenance Programme of the Department of Development, Territorial Planning and Housing of the Regional Government of Andalusia.

The works have cost 70,530 euros and have been carried out at kilometre point 99, on the left-hand carriageway of the dual carriageway. The road surface has been improved in both lanes, over a total length of 52 metres and a width of 10 metres. 71 tonnes of bituminous mix have been used in both the intermediate layer and the base layer to correct the deflection of the road surface and subsequently spread a micro-agglomerate on the wearing course, to restore the original gradient and improve road safety.

On the municipality’s bypass, between kilometre points 106 to 109, improvements have been made at several points on the road to correct the deflection of the road surface, which is the displacement of the pavement surface in response to the application of an external load, recovering the original gradient in order to improve safety.

Specifically, at 106+800, work was carried out on the left-hand carriageway, in both lanes, over a length of 81 metres and a width of 10.50 metres, using 68.29 tonnes of micro-agglomerate in the wearing course.

At point 107+550, work was carried out on the left-hand carriageway. The work consisted of repairing the wearing course up to the intermediate layer to eliminate cracks over a length of 18.60 metres. The original gradient of the wearing course has also been restored, over a length of 57 metres, to correct a slight drop in the right-hand lane. In this case, 74 tonnes of micro-agglomerate were used.

The last action was carried out on the full width of the structures of both carriageways over the La Canal ravine, located at kilometre points 108+800 on the right-hand carriageway and 108+850 on the left-hand carriageway. The gradient of both carriageways has been restored to eliminate deflection at the expansion joints at the entrance and exit of the structures. Work was carried out on 134 metres of the structure on the right-hand carriageway and 127 metres on the left-hand carriageway.

A total of 250 tonnes of micro-agglomerate were used and a surface area of 37,185 square metres was milled in all.

To carry out the work, the lane and/or the work area was cut off with the corresponding work signs; the necessary surfaces were milled for the execution of the joints and the most damaged sections where the road surface was exhausted; an asphalt emulsion type ECR-1 was applied as a tack coat and then paved with hot asphalt agglomerate, with bitumen type B35/50 in the base and intermediate layers.

The bituminous mix was spread in the areas where the road was rehabilitated and then the emulsion of a thermo-adherent watering type was applied before the complete wearing course with micro-agglomerate.

In addition, the road markings were painted and the traffic was regulated for the execution of the works by signalling personnel. For the last action, a transfer has been carried out between kilometre points 108 to 112, first on the left-hand carriageway and then on the right-hand carriageway, giving way in both directions on the carriageway free of works.
