Albox City Council approves PFEA works worth more than 600,000 euros

The plenary session of the Albox City Council has approved the PFEA’s action report for the next year. There are 14 improvement and maintenance actions in different areas of the urban centre and hamlets that will be carried out between October 2024 and June 2025. A package of actions that involve an investment of 605,845 euros and are financed through the Provincial Council, the Junta de Andalucía, the Government of Spain and the City Council.

Among the works planned for the coming months is the concreting of the Camino Llano del Espino-Cerro Gordo. A very busy road that leads to the Industrial Estate and which the residents themselves have demanded. An action that will entail an investment of 174,586 euros.

Ramón y Cajal Street, in the city centre, with a completely uneven stretch of pavement full of patches, will be replaced to give it continuity and safety; at the same time, the connections will be repaired.

The Pasaje Cerro Castillo is in a worse state, a street where there are three residential buildings and whose sidewalk is completely destroyed after decades without anyone having done anything in the area. With the PFEA, the entire sidewalk will be replaced and all the connections will be renewed.

The action plan also includes the paving of a section of Calle Príncipe de Asturias, where previous governments had left a specific area unrepaired. Now, access will also be improved for those residents of the La Loma neighbourhood. Something similar is happening on Calle Almería and Calle Cádiz, where a section of pavement will also be repaired and water connections replaced.

Numerous roads in the districts will be concreted to provide security for residents. This is the case of Camino Los Cantareros, where the access road to a housing complex in the La Aljambra neighbourhood will be improved.

In addition, Albox City Council has planned actions in Calle Almanzora, Calle Brígida Pardo on the corner of Calle Rosario, Calle Carmen Romero Molina, Calle Teniente Lobo and Calle Tíjola, Calle Arrieros, Calle Arrabal or Camino del Barranco del Oso. Action will be taken in all these areas after collecting requests from residents themselves to improve security and maintenance, which in many cases was non-existent.

“The bulk of the actions planned through the PFEA, the former PER, are maintenance and improvement works in areas that were very deteriorated. The truth is that maintenance work in the town practically did not exist until now, which is why we have given priority to works that improve the daily life of the residents,” explains the councillor for works, Esteban Carrión.

This year, Albox has joined the management of the PFEA by the Provincial Council of Almería, which represents a saving of 60,000 euros that will be passed on to all the people of Albox. “The PFEA is an example of institutional collaboration between the Government of Spain, the Junta de Andalucía, the Provincial Council and the Town Councils. And in this case, the Provincial Council and its financial and management help will allow us to reach more residents,” says the mayor, María del Mar Alfonso.

The Provincial Council, through the Special Delegation for Agricultural Employment, provides various services, such as the application, processing and justification of works, preparation of job offers, recruitment, social security and payroll, drafting of reports, drafting of health and safety plans, management of works and coordination of health and safety, worker prevention service, agreement with the Andalusian Government for the financing of materials.
