This Monday morning, the Purchena Scenic Space was the setting for the presentation of the 25th edition of the Summer Courses of the University of Almería.
A hundred people attended the launch of this traditional meeting, which this year is entitled ‘Depopulation in rural municipalities: threat or opportunity’.
José Luis Serrano, Mayor of Purchena, was in charge of welcoming the attendees and representatives of the different administrations present at the inauguration: Francesc Boyá, Secretary General for the Demographic Challenge, Fernando Giménez, Vice President of the Provincial Council of Almería, Francisco Bellido, Delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Family and Equality and Jaime de Pablo, Director of the course.
Around fifty people, including students from the tourism course run by the Association of Municipalities of the Almanzora Valley, attended the opening ceremony of the meetings that will take place until 10 July.
As a notable fact and despite the threat of depopulation, we were able to learn that the province of Almería continues to grow, although in very specific areas such as its coast and the West as the maximum expression, as well as the so-called Comarca del Mármol, which includes municipalities such as Purchena, Macael, Olula del Río, Cantoria and Fines, which have also grown compared to the last census.
