Agriculture improves two rural roads in Albox after an investment of 271,300 euros

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Andalusian Government has allocated nearly 271,300 euros to the improvement of two rural roads in the municipality of Albox. These actions are included in the Plan Itínere II programme, which aims to modernise access to farms. The territorial delegate for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development in Almería, Antonio Mena, explained that “rural roads are essential infrastructures when it comes to guaranteeing the productivity of agricultural and livestock farms, but their role in facilitating the transit of people, vehicles and machinery is also notable”.

Mena was accompanied on his visit by the mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso. Both have supervised the rural road La Cuerda Madroño, with a length of 1,407 metres and an investment of 128,838.59 euros. The works began on April 10 and have already been completed. As for the rural road Pocicas Arroyo Medina, work has been carried out on a length of 2,565 metres and an investment of 142,459.49 euros. The works began on May 20 and have also been completed. The works carried out have been about 1,115 metres of replacement of the firm with asphalt agglomerate, consolidation of bases and sub-bases, concrete slabs as a speed bump and signage.

In this regard, the Mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, has highlighted the importance of both actions “for what it means for the agricultural sector, since they are very long roads that provide access to many farms dedicated to the cultivation of almond trees, which is so important in our municipality”. In addition, in many cases, “they are roads that provide access to the homes of farmers and ranchers, so maintaining and improving them is essential”. The Mayor has expressed her gratitude to the Ministry for its commitment to the rural world.

The aim of the Itínere Plan is to improve rural roads that provide access to plots of land used for agricultural purposes and that have their origin or end in another road, highway or urban centre, the delegate explained, not without considering that these subsidies are aimed at improving agricultural and livestock competitiveness in Andalusia.
