The DGT launches two campaigns aimed at motorcyclists and speed control

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is carrying out two campaigns these weeks, one aimed at motorcyclists and the other on the control and surveillance of inappropriate speed. For this reason, the Government’s sub-delegate in Almería, José María Martín, and the provincial head of Traffic, José María Méndez, have presented two campaigns, accompanied by the captain in charge of the Traffic sub-sector of the Civil Guard in Almería, Eduardo Jesús Fernández, and Laura Márquez of ASPAYM, the association that aims to promote and encourage actions aimed at improving the quality of life of people with spinal cord injuries and severe physical disabilities.

The sub-delegate has highlighted that the campaigns launched by the DGT “will increase their attention this summer to one of the most vulnerable groups on the roads, motorcyclists, since in the first six months of the year 28 drivers of this type of vehicle have lost their lives in traffic accidents, 2 in Almería”. Martín has stated that “we are in the middle of summer and we must all take the utmost care at the wheel when going out on the road”. With the slogan ‘The road is not a race track. Remember: the important thing is to return’, the DGT and the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard are developing this information campaign aimed at motorcyclists through specific preventive controls aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.

On the other hand, Méndez explained that “there are two campaigns on motorcyclists that will be intensified during the weekends until the month of October.” The provincial head of Traffic has detailed that in the province of Almería there are approximately 54,000 motorcycle parking lots.

Regarding the speed control campaign, Méndez has assured that “the objective is to make drivers aware of the dangers of not complying with the limits and the consequences that this can have on road safety”. In Almería, 4,600 speeding tickets have already been registered so far this year. Last year, almost 14,900 tickets were registered in the province: 8,810 speeding tickets by the Traffic Department of the Civil Guard and 6,036 tickets by fixed radars.
