In the middle of July, when the thermometers are approaching 40 degrees in the Almanzora Valley, the elderly of the region have been able to enjoy a day of leisure, organised especially for them. The initiative came from the Albox Town Hall itself and the invitation was to promote a meeting of elderly people from different municipalities in the north of the province, specifically from the towns of Taberno, Zurgena, Macael, Partaloa, Fines, Arboleas, Urrácal and residents of the municipality of Albox itself, at the Water and Health Centre.
Almost four hundred senior citizens arrived on buses shortly before two in the afternoon, often accompanied by their mayor or councillors for senior citizens, and were received by the mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, and the territorial delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Andalusian Government, Francisco Bellido.
The attendees were able to enjoy a meal consisting of starters, paella and typical sweets. A lunch in which the elderly had the opportunity to meet up with friends, chat and enjoy a menu prepared especially for the occasion. Afterwards, a bingo was held and the evening ended with music and dancing. A day of leisure and conviviality organised by the Albox City Council in collaboration with the Active Participation Centre for the Elderly and the Department of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Andalusian Government.
“You are our greatest treasure, I am glad that you have taken advantage of this opportunity. Your life has to come first, you are a generation that has worked very hard, everything we have is thanks to you and now it is your turn to enjoy life” said the delegate Bellido after the welcome from the mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso. “You are at home, Albox has always been a welcoming town and we proposed this meeting because we believe that it is a good way for you to have fun, to meet people who have the same concerns as you and, ultimately, to have leisure activities during the summer season”.
