The Purchena Moriscos Games have reached their peak in terms of dissemination and participation in each of the sporting events that have taken place in the municipality. This new journey began on July 10 with its presentation in the Patio de Luces of the Provincial Council before more than 150 Purcheneros and culminated on Saturday with the Lifting of the ‘Burxana’ Stone.
In addition, more than a thousand people have gathered every night in the Plaza Constitución to relive this sporting, tourist and cultural event that has been taking place since 1993. The Moriscos Games of Abén Humeya, declared of National Tourist Interest of Andalusia, have had the support of the Provincial Council of Almería, the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Subdelegation and all the town councils of the Almanzora region.
The Councillor for Tourism and Communication, Joaquín Navío, has highlighted this edition as one of the most followed in recent decades: “We have data that support the great work that the commission has done in all aspects. On the one hand, work has been done to make a leap in quality in digital aspects such as a giant screen to follow the events from any point, as well as dissemination on social networks that has generated a provincial impact never seen before.”
In this sense, Navío has stressed the sporting and organisational part as a transcendental point of these games: “having more than 400 participants between young and old has allowed us to continue projecting ourselves as a competitive event in which people from Jaén or Murcia have been able to experience it first hand. In addition, we have had the support of a large number of volunteers, boys and girls from dance, a music band and Moorish troops”.
Finally, the councillor thanked the commission, organisation, volunteers, sportspeople, businesspeople, institutions and residents of Purchena for their commitment to continue spreading a historical legacy that takes us back to 1569 and which he hopes to continue promoting and improving from the Town Hall itself.
Record number of participants and digital dissemination.
Social media has been key in promoting the Abén Humeya Moriscos Games. More than 200,000 impressions were achieved between the different digital media of the Purchena City Council and the Olympic Games. A record in diffusion that has been fundamental for these games to continue being crowned as one of the most important events in the province of Almería.
