The Provincial Council of Almería brings sports practice associated with a healthy lifestyle to all corners of the Almería geography during the summer and, in particular, to the smallest and least resourced municipalities. The Provincial Institution’s Activa SALUD program will bring physical activity initiatives to 55 municipalities with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants during the summer.
The Activa SALUD programme will give residents of participating municipalities the opportunity to do activities such as aquagym, strength training, dancing or physical conditioning, mainly in the swimming pools of these towns. The Vice President and Deputy for Sport, Healthy Living and Youth, José Antonio García, has visited one of these workshops, specifically the one held in María.
The Vice President stated that “these types of programmes are very necessary because thanks to them, town councils with fewer resources have the opportunity to offer their residents and visitors quality activities, linked to sport and people’s physical and emotional health, during the summer. It is a way of spreading the importance of good habits to enjoy health at any age and, at the same time, they are activities that energise our towns at this time.”
García also stressed that “the Almería Activa SALUD programme promotes awareness among the population regarding the practice of sports activities associated with health in its broadest sense, the dissemination of active and healthy lifestyle habits and guidance to citizens for the practice of sports appropriate to their preferences, capabilities and circumstances throughout each life cycle”.
This programme includes the Healthy Sports Schools Project, which will address the emerging need to promote physical activities, from the age of 16 and without age limit. They will be aimed at the acquisition of healthy lifestyle habits, improvement of physical condition and quality of life, the fight against a sedentary lifestyle and healthy leisure time, mainly. It will be especially aimed at the creation and implementation of permanent organisational structures such as maintenance and/or physical conditioning schools, in the smallest municipalities of our province.
