The festivities in honour of San Ginés de la Jara fill the streets of Purchena with life

Purchena is in a sweet mood thanks to the summer planned by the Purchena Town Hall for the festivities in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, the Moriscos Games of Abén Humeya and the patron saint festivities of San Ginés de la Jara. A summer full of life, fun and lots of entertainment, in which children and adults have been able to experience some magical days.

This municipality in Almería has ended its summer 2024 with the celebration of some festivities that, proclaimed by its parish priest, Mr. Antonio Manuel Hernández, have included summer cinema, indoor football, a bike route, cirkalgia by DaniDanielo, basketball, 3×3 street football, aquagym, brisca and bingo, the return of the wagons, lots of music and the climb to the Hermitage of the patron saint, the Virgen del Carmen.

The Mayor of Purchena, José Luis Serrano, has highlighted the pride he feels when “I see in the square, in the streets and in every corner of Purchena, many residents and visitors living with devotion and joy these festivities that are a reference in the region. Here I have been able to see many residents from other nearby municipalities, but also people from Purchena who live in other communities all year round and who have enjoyed a great week as always.”

In this sense, the mayor has made a positive assessment of the summer: “It is increasingly costly and complicated to organize a summer of this nature in a town like ours, but when enthusiasm and desire come first, everything works. I am lucky to have a team of councillors and volunteers who have made a fantastic summer full of activities for all audiences.”

The parish priest, herald of the festivities

Following the announcement of the departure of D. Antonio Manuel Hernández as a missionary to Peru, the residents were totally unanimous in declaring him the herald of the festivities of San Ginés de la Jara and of a town where he has spent the last two years. On Thursday night, the parish priest gave a brilliant word-for-word description of what Purchena meant and the great things it has brought to his person.
