The Civil Guard Headquarters in Almería has hosted the presentation of the ‘I Virgen del Pilar Solidarity Race’ which will be held on October 6 in the capital. The event will be a 6.2-kilometer circuit through the capital of Almería and also includes a children’s race for the little ones. Representatives of the Government Subdelegation, the Provincial Council, the Almería City Council, the Poco Frecuentes Foundation and other entities that participate in this activity attended this morning’s presentation.
The Government Subdelegate in Almería, José María Martín, stressed that “it is a solidarity event in which a good part of the administrations of Almería collaborate and in which the objective is also to raise funds for the Poco Frecuentes Foundation of Almería”. Martín has encouraged society to get involved and participate in the race which, in addition to having a charitable purpose, will help us spend a healthy morning with the family”. The Subdelegation wanted to thank the Civil Guard for their involvement in the organisation of this event, which will also allow the public to enjoy an exhibition at the Command.
The Colonel in charge of the Command in Almería, Jorge Montero, thanked all the administrations and entities for their support to the organisation, as well as the Association for its involvement in the launch of this edition. Montero recalled that “the Civil Guard recently approved a comprehensive plan for the promotion of physical activity that aims to facilitate the culture of sport and healthy habits among all members of the body”, so he was convinced that “this race can be a good contribution to achieving this objective”. He also had special thanks to the Civil Guard Foundation for the support shown since the development of the race was proposed.
Citizen collaboration and healthy living
The Vice President and Deputy for Sports, José Antonio García, has praised this charity event and has congratulated the Guardia Civil of Almería for launching this sporting event: “It is a great race that is here to stay because the objectives that this race fulfils are many. It offers the possibility of thanking the Guardia Civil for the great work that you do in the province. We also fulfil another objective of opening the Guardia Civil to society and getting to know all the work that you do in favour of Almería. In the sporting part, it also fulfils a great job because you promote sport and healthy living with a spectacular route. In addition, it is a charity event in favour of the Poco Frecuente Association”.
The Councillor for Sports of the Almería City Council, Antonio Jesús Casimiro, has assured that this type of event “not only benefits the body but also the mind because the regular practice of physical activity improves the mood and reduces stress, which in turn reduces the risk of mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety”. In this sense, Casimiro has encouraged “to sign up for this I Solidarity Race not only because it is a physical route but a path of solidarity and empathy in which the important thing is not the physical condition of today, but the one we want to have tomorrow”.
To conclude, the president of the Poco Frecuentes Foundation of Almería, María del Mar Beltrán, has thanked all the institutions and especially the Civil Guard for the organization of this event and has asked for “citizen collaboration because the goal is to continue helping families and people who suffer from rare diseases and who need everyone’s support”.
