Agents from the Civil Guard Investigation Team in the town of Vera have arrested a 25-year-old man, resident in the municipality of Huércal-Overa, as the perpetrator of attempted homicide. The alleged perpetrator used his vehicle to intentionally run over a 23-year-old man whom he knew as they both lived in the same town.
The investigation began following a complaint filed by the victim, who stated that he had received a strong impact in the back that threw him several metres over a metal fence, falling into an open field approximately three metres high where he was left semi-conscious. Despite the intense pain, the victim managed to get up and return home on his own two feet. Once there, he was helped by his family, who took him to the Hospital de la Inmaculada in Huércal-Overa, where he received medical assistance and proceeded to immobilize his right arm and foot.
The officers took a statement from the victim, who could barely remember what happened, mentioning only that the vehicle that ran him over was large and dark in color. Based on this information, the Vera Civil Guard Investigation Team collected the testimony of a person who was with the victim moments before the accident.
The testimonies collected by the agents, added to the analysis of the images obtained from various security cameras and the parts of the vehicle found at the scene of the events, together with the collaboration of the Vera Local Police, allowed the Civil Guard to first identify the vehicle involved in the accident and, subsequently, the driver responsible.
The agents in charge of the investigation found out that the detainee had tried to eliminate all traces of the vehicle after the accident. Once all the evidence had been gathered, the investigators went to Huércal-Overa, the town of residence of the owner of the vehicle involved in the accident, where they managed to locate him and proceed to arrest him.
As a result of this action, the Civil Guard has arrested a 25-year-old man as the perpetrator of a crime of attempted homicide and failure to provide assistance. The detainee, along with the proceedings carried out, has been placed at the disposal of the Vera Court of Instruction.
