Some fifty hikers participated this Sunday in the second edition of the Ruta del Peregrino del Almanzora, an initiative promoted by the town councils of Serón and Olula del Río, together with the Association of Tourist Entrepreneurs of Almanzora. The activity was organized by the Menas Mountain Club and the Cóndor Mountaineering Club.
The route, which comprises a total of 23 kilometers, ran along the Vía Verde del Almanzora, starting in Serón and passing through the Tíjola Station and the Purchena Station, until reaching the City of Culture of Olula del Río. This stage is part of the route that links the Santo Cristo del Bosque de Bacares with the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Saliente in Albox, a pilgrimage divided into four stages that the association promotes annually. On this occasion, the hikers completed the second stage of the route.
The day began in Olula del Río, from where the participants were taken by bus to Serón. There, the Serón Town Council offered the hikers a breakfast with coffee, biscuits and local ham to recharge their energy before setting off. After a group photo, the walkers set off on the route. After just under two hours, the hikers arrived at Tíjola Station, where they paused to rest and resumed their walk towards Purchena Station and Olula del Río.
The day concluded in the Plaza de la Ciudad de la Cultura in Olula del Río. Later, the Olula del Río Town Council offered the hikers a soft drink and a snack in San Pablo Park, putting the finishing touch to a day of socialising and sport in the heart of nature.
The success of this second stage has generated great enthusiasm among the participants, who are already looking forward to the announcement of the third stage of this religious-sports route, thus consolidating itself as a prominent event in the calendar of activities of Almanzora.
