At the beginning of the year, Albox City Council began to take the first steps to recover the local group of Civil Protection volunteers. It was one of the commitments of the new government team to once again have this service that had disappeared in recent years.
In January, the mayor met with the Head of Civil Protection Service in Almería, Jacobo Acosta, the head of the Local Police of Albox, Casimiro Martínez and volunteers from the old team who once belonged to Civil Protection, to recover this service so valuable to the daily life of the town.
It was at the Virgen del Saliente Pilgrimage that the new Group carried out its first service, supporting the rest of the security forces so that the numerous devotees of La Pequeñica could complete the pilgrimage without incident. And this week they were received at the Town Hall by the Mayor, María del Mar Alfonso, on her first institutional visit to define how the work will be during the next few months. “It was a commitment from our team, a promise we made to the residents, because we believe that it is a very important service. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank these volunteers for their work and the help they are going to provide us in numerous activities. They will be the best complement to the different security measures” assures the Mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso.
Tuli Rey is the head of the local Civil Protection Group, and in his meeting with the mayor he took the opportunity to thank her for the support provided to revive the project “we are very happy to be back, we are currently ten members and we are open to anyone who wants to help in this service”.
After the obligatory photo, the working meeting with Alfonso continued to address the different functions that the Group will have, such as its collaboration in municipal emergency plans, its participation in events with public attendance, informative campaigns, preventive measures and support for emergency services such as firefighters, health workers and local police, without forgetting its collaboration in all types of sporting, cultural and leisure activities that take place in the municipality of Albox.
