Last weekend, a group of 50 people from the city of Cartagena had the opportunity to visit the municipality of Albox and its emblematic Sanctuary of the Virgen del Saliente.
Accompanied by a local tour guide, the visitors began their tour in the Plaza Mayor, recognised as one of the largest in the province. They then went to the church of Santa María and strolled through the streets of the old town, immersing themselves in the stories that date back to the 19th and early 20th centuries. The first stage of the visit culminated in the Albox Town Hall, a historic building that was once a convent and hospital for people in need. At this stop, the visitors were welcomed by the mayor María del Mar Alfonso and the councillor for tourism, Martín Martínez, who accompanied them on a tour of the interior of the building.
After completing this first section, the group continued their visit to the Santuario del Saliente. There, a specialized guide from the board revealed the secrets of this majestic temple, which has more than 300 years of history. The attendees also had the opportunity to admire the Virgen del Saliente, whose sanctuary welcomes thousands of devout pilgrims every year.
These types of organised trips to the Almanzora Valley are carried out regularly, coordinated by the Association of Tourist Businessmen of the Almanzora Valley. The organisation is responsible for managing excursions for between 40 and 50 people interested in learning about the rich history and culture of the towns in the region.
The “Almanzora Tourism” project continues to work actively with more than a hundred travel agencies in Almería, Murcia, Alicante and Granada, with the aim of promoting tourism in the region and raising awareness of its cultural and gastronomic wealth. This initiative particularly benefits the self-employed and small local businesses, boosting the economic development of the area.
The collaboration of the town councils, such as in this case that of Albox, has been key to ensuring that visitors leave satisfied and surprised by the beauty and charm of the municipality. Tourism entrepreneurs continue to boost the sector, helping to generate wealth and opportunities in the region.
