The Andalusian Government collaborates in the renovation of the Castillo de Los Vélez school through the PFEA

The territorial delegate of the Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and Civil Service, Rebeca Gómez, has visited together with the mayor of Vélez Blanco, Ana María López, and the head of the local administration service of the Junta, Patricia Sabio, the projects carried out by the City Council with the Program for the Promotion of Agricultural Employment (PFEA), with a contribution of 107,000 euros from the Ministry in the last two years. Among these actions there are several reforms in the CEIP Castillo de Los Vélez to repair damage caused by the rains in the facilities.

Rebeca Gómez has highlighted the importance of this program “especially for “For small municipalities, the PFEA is an effective tool to combat depopulation, promote the settlement of people in their municipalities and at the same time improve their basic municipal infrastructure.”

The PFEA is an example of collaboration between administrations, as the works are co-financed by the State, which pays for the labour, and the Regional Government and the Provincial Councils, which assume 75% and 25% of the cost of the materials respectively.

In Vélez Blanco, the Department of Local Administration has provided 107,000 euros between the last financial year and the current one for work at the Castillo de Los Vélez school, as well as conservation and maintenance work in green areas of the municipality, resurfacing of urban roads and reestablishing sanitation and public lighting networks.

In the case of the school, the works focus on waterproofing the facades and actions to put an end to the serious dampness that affected the centre, while during the Christmas holidays the back and front patios of the centre, which had been flooded by the rain, will be paved. It is also planned to plant trees and work on a slope to prevent further damage. During his visit to the centre, where a hundred pupils study, the director, Juan José Blázquez, thanked the mayor and the delegate for their commitment to improving the centre over the last two years with the PFEA.

Rebeca Gómez has highlighted “the municipalist nature of all the policies of the Junta de Andalucía” and has reaffirmed the commitment of the regional administration to the rural world, as well as to the PFEA, “essential to equalize opportunities and contribute to improving the economic capacity and the sustainability of infrastructures in smaller municipalities, which allow the installation of professionals and companies”.

For her part, the mayor of Vélez has expressed “the most sincere gratitude to the Junta de Andalucía for its commitment through the PFEA to the development of our municipality, because thanks to this program many of the infrastructures of Vélez Blanco have been improved, jobs have been created and with all this our local economy has been strengthened.”
