The municipality of Tíjola has become the true sports capital of Almanzora after the inauguration, this Thursday, of the Regional Sports Complex ‘Al Moroc’. The opening ceremony of these new facilities was chaired by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo; the President of the Provincial Council, Javier A. García, and the Mayor, José Juan Martínez Pérez.
Representatives from the various administrations were also accompanied by the Vice President, José Antonio García, the Deputy for Public Works, Antonio J. Rodríguez, and the Government team of Tíjola, mayors of the region and more than 500 schoolchildren from different municipalities who attended a multitudinous and multidisciplinary sports event.
The historic day that the municipality of Tíjola has experienced began at the entrance of the Basketball Court, where the municipality will pay tribute to the councillor who supported this project, Javier Imbroda. Immediately afterwards, the inauguration began and the interventions after the family photo at the monolith.
Specifically, it has consisted of different actions: on the one hand, the construction of an artificial turf football field, with its corresponding changing rooms and stands; as well as sports courts and the urbanization of the surroundings with green areas, pedestrian routes and parking lots. In addition, an access roundabout has been built on the road that leads to Cela, Lúcar and now also to the Al-Moroc Regional Sports Complex.
The President of the Provincial Council has assured that December 5 will be marked in the history of Tíjola, the Almanzora region and the entire province. “We are inaugurating a project that reinforces the pride of being from Tíjola and Almería and that shows one of the great values of the people of Almería: unity and commitment to the future. We are inaugurating the Al-Moroc Regional Sports City, a dream come true thanks to the alliance between the Junta de Andalucía, the Tíjola City Council and the Provincial Council of Almería. This collaboration shows that, when institutions work together, great projects are not only possible, but they become a reality.”
Javier A. García recalled that this project has given rise to one of the best sports facilities in its population range, putting Tíjola on a par with the sports services of the large cities in the province. “Teams from all over the Almanzora region and thousands of residents will benefit from these facilities. Children, young people and adults will have a space where they can practice sports, promote values such as teamwork and self-improvement, and enjoy a healthier life. But beyond sport, this complex will be a meeting point, a space where relationships are forged, ties are strengthened and the feeling of a region is consolidated.”
Finally, he stressed that “this complex is not just a set of sports facilities; it is a symbol of how we understand the future; full of opportunities and equal access to sport for all people from Almería, wherever they live.”
For her part, the Minister of Culture and Sport, Patricia del Pozo, has highlighted the commitment of the institutions to make this sports complex a reality and has welcomed the opening of “this great sports facility that is so necessary, and at the same time so in demand by the residents”. “From the Andalusian Government we are very clear that for the practice of sport among Andalusians to continue growing we have to have good facilities and support all those who promote it”, she assured.
“In Andalusia we are convinced of the importance of promoting sports to promote the health, leisure and well-being of our citizens,” said Del Pozo, pointing out the data, reflected in surveys, that “more than 50% of the Andalusian population already does some type of sporting activity at least once a week.”
José Juan Martínez Pérez, Mayor of Tíjola: “We work to equalize opportunities”
The Mayor of Tíjola welcomed all the attendees, assuring them that dreams do not come true, they have to be worked on and matured. “Tíjola dreamed of having sports facilities that would be a reference not only in the region but in the province so that all the sportsmen and women of the municipality could enjoy decent facilities. Everything has been possible thanks to the alliance between the Regional Government, the Provincial Council and the City Council. We work to equalize opportunities,” said the Mayor, aware that the residents of the interior of the province must have access to practicing sports, wherever they live.
4 million investment and a slap on the wrist for the opposition
He also stressed that we are facing a historic day because a regional project is being inaugurated in the municipality that has brought together the administrations and that has a budget of 4 million euros. “We made a clear commitment to sport from the beginning of the other legislature, because we believe that investing in sport is investing in health. There are 50,000 m2 to practice sport, enjoy green areas and recreation and rest areas. I regret that the opposition has not supported these works, which will remain for all the people of Tijol, whoever they vote for.”
Finally, he thanked all those who have participated in this work and especially the contributions of the clubs that have contributed to its design; “dedicating this complex to Javier Imbroda, the fact that we are here today is due to his personal commitment as a Councillor to grant us this subsidy that has made the inauguration possible. This complex will always be part of his legacy,” said Martínez, proud of the new facilities.
