Cantoria reaches 750 registered participants and closes the quota for its long-awaited Trail La Pólvora 2025

24 and 13.5 kilometre races, as well as a hiking route, for a mountain race that is consolidating itself in the winter calendar

The Trail de La Pólvora in Cantoria 2025 is preparing to be held this Sunday, January 19, with success assured after having reached the limit of 750 registered, which has forced the closing of registrations. This sporting event, which in recent years has grown to become a reference for trail running lovers, will bring together runners from different parts of Spain and other countries, consolidating its prestige as one of the most important mountain races in Andalusia. Part of the proceeds will be donated, as every year, to a non-profit organization, which for this 2025 edition will be Astea Autismo.

“The success of the race has forced us to resize not only the equipment that we have to put together every year to provide the race with enough attractions and incentives, but we have also had to adapt our own modest initial ambitions to this multitudinous event that we now host every year. We are Cantoria and our facilities have a limit. We like to do things very well and, of course, not disappoint anyone who comes here, which is why, for the moment, we have to leave the number of registered participants at 750. We will see how we can increase that number next year or in the not too distant future, but only if we can guarantee adequate attention to the participants,” explains the mayor, Puri Sánchez, in response to the dozens of calls that continue to be received from runners asking to be put on a waiting list in case of last-minute cancellations.

Two routes, one unique setting

The La Pólvora Trail in Cantoria offers two route options, adapted both for experienced athletes and for those looking to start in this discipline. The long version consists of 24 kilometres with a positive gradient of 1,160 metres, a challenge designed for those looking for a demanding experience. On the other hand, the short version, with 13.5 kilometres and a positive gradient of 563 metres, shares the same layout as the route for hikers.

Both routes allow you to enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the Almanzora Valley, an area that combines natural beauty with technical demands for runners. Winding paths, stream crossings and panoramic views of the region are intertwined in routes that guarantee a unique experience in the heart of nature.

The start of both events is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. from the Plaza de la Constitución in Cantoria, the nerve center of the event and meeting place for runners, organizers and spectators.

To ensure the comfort and safety of participants, the organization has set up a rigorous logistical arrangement that includes multiple refreshment points distributed along the routes, where runners can replenish their energy with water, fruit and energy snacks. In addition, a team of health professionals will be available in case of any incident.

More than a race: a community event

The Cantoria Trail is not only a sporting event, but also an opportunity to promote coexistence and inland tourism in the historic capital of the Almanzora Valley. The event relies on the involvement of numerous local volunteers, who collaborate in signposting, control of strategic points and logistical support. This collaboration with neighbours has been key to the growth of the event, which attracts more and more runners and visitors.

In addition, after the race, an awards ceremony will be held in the municipal pavilion. During this event, the winners of the different categories will be recognized with trophies and gifts from the sponsors. There will also be activities for companions and the public, who will be able to enjoy a festive atmosphere with music and local food stalls.

The success of the Cantoria Trail is an example of how sport can become a driving force for development in rural municipalities. In recent years, the event has helped position Cantoria as a prominent tourist destination, attracting not only mountain runners, but also their families and companions, who take advantage of the opportunity to discover the cultural, gastronomic and scenic offerings of the region.
