The alleged perpetrator later staged another accident with the same vehicle to conceal the damage caused by the fatal collision.
The Traffic Investigation and Analysis Group (GIAT) of the Traffic Subsector of the Almería Civil Guard Command has completed its investigation with the arrest of the alleged perpetrator who ran over a person, resulting in death, on the AL-3106 road, fleeing the scene and attempting to hide the evidence by simulating another accident with another vehicle before filing the corresponding report with the rental company for repairs.
An investigation began when the GIAT of the Almería Command learned of the discovery of a body on the right side of the AL-3106 road in the municipality of Níjar-Cabo de Gata. It was determined that the death was due to injuries sustained during a hit-and-run.
After an exhaustive reconstruction of the events and a thorough analysis of the vehicle wreckage found at the scene, it was possible to determine, first, the make, model, and approximate date of manufacture of the vehicle, thus narrowing down the number of vehicles with similar characteristics in the area. This led to the discovery that the lessee of a vehicle from a rental company based in Níjar had handed in a vehicle for repair, which had allegedly been involved in an accident with a truck on a farm in Aguaamarga.
Once the vehicle was located, which was to be repaired at a workshop in a town in Murcia, a thorough inspection of the damage was carried out, which confirmed that the damage was consistent with the road accident under investigation. Furthermore, the wreckage found at the scene matched the damage to the vehicle itself.
After identifying the alleged driver and learning that he is wanted by a court, a search warrant is set up, where it can be seen that he adopts numerous security measures to evade police action for this and other previous incidents.
As a result of this investigation, the Traffic Investigation and Analysis Group of the Almería Command intervened in the vehicle and located and arrested the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of Reckless Homicide and Leaving the Scene of an Accident, after running over a person in Níjar, resulting in death, and then leaving the scene.
Both the proceedings and the detainee are placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court No. 4 of Almería.
