The Delegate for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Antonio Mena, visited the municipality of Cantoria, along with the town’s mayor, Purificación Sánchez, and inspected the near-completion works to modernize the Camino Real. This road had a budget of €160,366 and involved work on 1,852 meters.
For Mena, «it’s a road with a high level of traffic, which was in very poor condition. Several sections had been affected by landslides to the north of the road, due to causes inherent to this type of terrain and the steep slopes on which it lies.»
The delegate explained that the work carried out included the removal of the existing triple-treated asphalt gravel surface. In addition, the first 20 cm were scarified, which, once broken down, was mixed with a 10 cm layer of artificial gravel to increase the granular surface layer at the base and compensate for existing material losses due to potholes and bite marks, to a width of 5.5 meters. The vegetation in the ditches was cleared and removed, and a rock breakwater was built at kilometer point 000-kilometer point 0085 on the left side of the road, 85 meters long, and a culvert at kilometer point 0450-kilometer point 475, approximately 25 meters long. Antonio Mena emphasized that «these actions related to improving agricultural infrastructure are being carried out directly by the Andalusian Regional Government, as the infrastructure has been declared of general interest by the Autonomous Community.»
