The Town Council of Albox wants to recover the local group of Civil Protection volunteers that was in operation for years, and to this end, this week held a meeting with the Head of Civil Protection Service in Almeria, Jacobo Acosta.
The meeting was also attended by the head of the Albox Local Police, Casimiro Martinez, the Councillor for Public Safety, Martin Martinez and volunteers from the old team, who once belonged to Civil Protection in the town.
The aim of this first working meeting was to find out what steps need to be taken so that the municipality of Albox can recover this service. «This first meeting with the Head of Service in Almeria has been very productive. We want our town to have Civil Protection again, we believe it is a very valuable service and a town of the size of Albox needs these volunteers to help us in a multitude of activities and to complement the various security arrangements,» explains the mayoress of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso.

Once the Local Group of Civil Protection Volunteers has been re-established, its main functions will be to collaborate in the preparation and maintenance of municipal emergency plans, implement the guidelines issued by the municipal technical services for prevention in events with public concurrence, carry out information campaigns, act in preventive operational devices, support the emergency services, fire, health and local police. And of course, collaborate with sporting activities and popular festivities of all kinds.
