Cabo de Palos will have a new leisure and recreation area in the port area next summer. The Town Hall has awarded the works planned in the ‘Bocana de Cabo de Palos’ project to the company Audeca, for 308,212 euros and a completion period of 4 months. This was announced by the mayor herself, Noelia Arroyo, who pointed out that this project «aims to give Cabo de Palos this area for walking and recreation, after having been relegated to car parks».

With this action, according to Arroyo, «we recover and integrate this area with the rest of the port environment, making it compatible with the fishing use, and allowing its complete incorporation into the tourist and cultural routes».

The area of action in the mouth of the port covers a total surface area of 1,384 m². 384 m² which are mainly divided into three areas: the square, with a surface area of 870 m², which will be paved to give continuity to the current harbour promenade; the breakwater, with a surface area of 400 m², where the current breakwater will be consolidated and a new area of special concrete for marine environments will be added; and finally, work will be carried out on the breakwater, with a surface area of 115 m², which will be regularised, stabilised, compacted and filled in some areas near the breakwater.

The Bocana project has a budget of just over 300,000 euros and will make it possible to control uncontrolled parking.

The project envisages the illumination of the space through the installation of towers, one of which will be located at the end of the harbour promenade, marking the beginning of the action at the mouth of the harbour. In addition, palm trees will be planted, there will be a panel explaining the surroundings, a wagon will be recreated, native plants will be incorporated and benches for resting will be installed.

Automatic bollards
To prevent unauthorised vehicle traffic in the area, the project foresees the control of vehicles in front of the fish market by means of automatic bollards, which will only give access to supplies for restaurants, the fish market, specific events and maintenance. These bollards will allow the current bollards in front of the harbour promenade next to the petrol station to be removed.
