The Territorial Delegate for Development, Territorial Planning and Housing, Dolores Martínez Utrera, together with the Mayor of Zurgena, Domingo Trabalón, visited the works carried out for the new traffic management of the A-1101 road as a result of the reciprocal transfer formalised in December 2023 between the Regional Ministry of Development, Territorial Planning and Housing and the Town Council of Zurgena. This is the section of the A-1101 road located between km. 37+200 and 37+650 which, until that date, was owned by the Andalusian Regional Government and the Avenida de Murcia, which was owned by the municipality, both of which pass through the town of La Alfoquía.
The territorial delegate, Dolores Martínez, explained that «prior to the swap, the A-1101 road «from Sorbas to Zurgena» as it passes through La Alfoquía, had a longer route that went into the town, creating a section of road with a greater risk to the safety of vehicle and pedestrian traffic due to urban traffic, the network of streets, buildings, car parks and businesses on both sides». On the other hand, the Avenida de Murcia, with a single straight alignment of shorter length, represents a lower risk to the safety of vehicle and pedestrian traffic as it is less consolidated with buildings and there is hardly any urban traffic, street network, car parks or businesses on both sides.
With the works carried out, traffic has been reorganised along Avenida de Murcia and the road has been reconditioned as a road, modifying the traffic movements of the existing «T» type intersections, replacing one of them with a roundabout with an outer diameter of 24.00 metres and a central island of 11.00 metres.
The paving of the new section of road has also been carried out by milling 5.00 cm of the existing road surface and the subsequent manufacture and paving of the 6.00 cm average thickness wearing course with hot bituminous mix of the AC-16 type, providing thnecessary transversal and longitudinal pumping to the entire road platform.
