The President of the Provincial Council of Almeria, Javier A. García, participated this morning in the Institutional Plenary Session convened by the City Council of Turre to, among other matters, celebrate the 28th of February, Day of Andalusia.
In this way, Javier A. García has made the first institutional visit to the municipality of the Corporation 2023-2027 in a plenary session that has also made history for the municipality because it has been awarded the medals of councillor to the members of the Corporation. It is the first time that the councillors have received this important symbol and the mayor received it from the president. In addition, this ceremony also paid tribute to the two former secretaries who have worked in the last 10 years in the Town Hall and to the new head of the secretariat and intervention.
Javier A. García said that «today is a day to deepen the pride we feel for being Almerian and for living in the best land in the world» and highlighted the important history of the municipality. «More than four centuries have passed since Felipe II made official the separation of Turre and Mojácar… In other words, the history of Turre, as we know it today, goes back two and a half centuries beyond our province and almost 400 years to the creation of our autonomous community. Turre has been a land that has known how to reinvent itself and adapt to the vicissitudes of time. It has gone from being an agricultural and livestock village to a modern urban town whose economic pillars are trade, hospitality and construction, among others».

In addition, the president has detailed that these centuries of history have been an example of the work capacity of the turreros. «But now you have and should know that the turreros can count on a Provincial Council that will always be your ally. You should be proud of yourselves because while other municipalities in Spain are ravaged by the phenomenon of depopulation, your town is growing steadily and today has more inhabitants than it has ever had before. This is something that your town has achieved based on the values of effort and sacrifice of its residents and the capacity that you have shown to turn adversity into opportunity».
Likewise, Javier A. García assured that the Provincial Council’s main focus of our management is the equality of services for all the residents of the province. «That is why we work, in coordination with your town council, to ensure that the people of Turrero have access to the same opportunities as any other resident of the province».
Finally, the President of the Provincial Council assured that «This 2024 will mark the history of the Turre Town Council. The medal that we have imposed on you councillors today will serve to ensure that you never forget the privilege of representing your neighbours and being part of the institution that directs the future of your town.
For his part, the Mayor of Turre, Arturo Grima, said he was proud that the President of the Provincial Council had chosen Turre to celebrate such an important date with the councillors and residents of the municipality for two reasons: the Day of Andalusia and the arrival, for the first time, of the medals of the councillors at the Town Hall.
