This Friday, 8th March, the municipality of Albox joins in the celebration of International Women’s Day. And it wants to do so by highlighting the trajectory of six local women. Six women from Albox who have fought to bring their families forward, recognised for their work, in most cases helping others. Pioneers in times when it was even more difficult for women and of whom the municipality of Albox is very proud.
Fina Alonso Martínez, Rosario Lozano Teruel, María Sáez López, Rosa María Pardo Mármol, Lucia Contreras Mora and posthumously, Constanza Blesa López will receive the recognition. They are the six women who will receive the ‘Illustrious Women of Albox 2024 Award’ at a special Gala on the occasion of 8-M which will take place this Friday at 7pm at the Water and Health Centre.
This will be the finishing touch to a day that will begin with the inauguration of the new premises of the Municipal Women’s Information Centre. The event will be attended by the Delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Francisco González Bellido, the Coordinator of the Andalusian Institute for Women, María Esparza and the Mayoress herself, María del Mar Alfonso.

The Municipal Women’s Information Centre of Albox (CMIM) has moved to Calle Ramón y Cajal, on the ground floor of the Municipal Historical Archive. The new premises improve accessibility, confidentiality and, in short, provide better facilities for the information, advice and support services offered by the professionals. Paqui Cano, Legal Advisor and Isabel Sánchez, as Equality Agent, provide services to the whole Almanzora Region.
«For us it is very important to continue working to achieve real equality. To recognise the work done by our predecessors, women who have fought to make a place for themselves in society. To be a reference and the best in their daily lives. And at the same time, improving services for women with the new municipal facilities. Believing in equality means demonstrating it on a daily basis, and in this government team we are convinced of this», assures the mayoress of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso.
In the morning there will also be a visit to the Violet Point installed in the Plaza José Miras Carrasco.
At 12.30 p.m. there will be a screening of a documentary and a debate and discussion by Rocío Juárez, a filmmaker and expert in equality in the Federico García Lorca Auditorium.
In Albox the events to commemorate International Women’s Day will continue beyond 8M. From the 18th to the 27th of March an exhibition of the two editions of ‘Illustrious Women of Albox’ will be held at the CMIM.
And from the 8th to the 19th of April there will be an exhibition of paintings by the participants in the ‘Carmen de Burgos’ workshops held in the municipality of Albox.
