
At 8 p.m. on Friday 8th March, the 41 vehicles that will compete in the X Edition of the Rally Valle del Almanzora – Sierra de Los Filabres, saw the starting flag in the main avenue of Olula del Río.
Numerous public attended to witness the departure of these vehicles that in different categories will circulate through different municipalities such as Olula del Río, Cantoria, Arboleas, Albanchez, Líjar, Fines, Chercos and Cóbdar.
Representatives of the Provincial Council of Almeria, the Andalusian Automobile Federation, the Town Councils through which the race will take place and leaders of the Balcón del Almanzora Club attended the starting grid, where minutes before the start, a tribute was paid to Manuel Martínez, Manolo el de la Elvira, a driver and mechanic from Olula del Río, who passed away a few years ago.


His daughter María José received the plaque of recognition, surrounded by Manolo’s friends and from the mayor of the municipality, Antonio Martínez Pascual.
The Rally Valle del Almanzora – Sierra de los Filabres, has a route that exceeds 370 kilometres. The nerve centre of this edition, as in previous editions, is Olula del Río. On Friday afternoon, the start and the timed section took place in this municipality. Tomorrow, Saturday, the race will move on to Cantonria, Arboleas and Albanchez with the morning stages. In the afternoon, the stages will take place in Líjar, Chercos, Cóbdar and Albachez.
