The Postal Service issues stamps for the IV Centenary of «El Señor de la Caja» (The Lord of the Box) of Vélez-Rubio

The Spanish Post Office has issued stamps on the occasion of the IV Centenary of the making of the titular image of the Brotherhood of the Santa Vera Cruz y Sangre de Cristo, popularly known as «El Señor de la Caja».
Through the Vélez-Rubio Post Office, the Brotherhood has acquired twelve sheets of TUSELLO with this image. This product allows images to be transformed into self-adhesive stamps with all the identifying features of Correos stamps. In this case, 300 A-rate units have been issued for standardised national mail up to 20g.
The philatelic issues commemorating this anniversary, celebrated last year, show the Recumbent Christ by Alonso de Mena from 1623, which has articulated arms to represent the scene of the Crucifixion on the morning of Good Friday. It is the Recumbent-Crucified Christ of greatest artistic merit in the Diocese of Almeria and one of the most important processional images in Andalusia.
More and more Brotherhoods are using the philatelic products of the Post Service, which not only fulfil their function in the franking of mailings, but also serve as an exceptional means of transmitting facts, moments and important events, as well as the culture and values of their immediate surroundings.
