The Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification, through its emergency services, has brought together almost 700 people in Almeria at the Civil Protection Volunteering Conference, which is being held to promote knowledge among the groups and which this year has an essentially practical character.
The delegate of the Andalusian Government in the province, Aránzazu Martín, recalled that «the groups are altruistic organisations, men and women who dedicate their time, professionalism and effort to help their neighbours in prevention and emergency relief work». Martín underlined the importance of meetings such as today’s, where «the large Civil Protection family is strengthened and the foundations of volunteering are laid».
Finally, the delegate stressed that these groups «are a fundamental part of the right of citizens to participate in civil protection and emergencies, and contribute with their work to create more resilient towns and cities. Citizen collaboration and participation, coordinated, promoted and channelled through these groups, is a basic support for self-protection and social solidarity».

Practical exercise
A total of 29 groups from all over the province are taking part in this day which has been conceived as a great exercise to test the knowledge of the participants with three practical workshops: one of a health nature which will be given by professionals from the 061 Health Emergency Centre (CES); another on the deployment of the Advanced Command Post (PMA) and a third workshop on the search for people.
