The fluid institutional collaboration between the Provincial Council, the Taberno Town Council and the Andalusian Regional Government has made it possible, once again, for a municipality in Almería to face the demographic challenge by creating the necessary opportunities for two of its young entrepreneurs to develop their life and professional project in the town where they were born. This morning, the young tavern owners Miguel Ángel González and Estiven Sánchez received the keys to the industrial warehouses in which they will carry out their professional activity, a bakery and a warehouse for food distribution, respectively.
The industrial warehouses are located in the Las Coscojas area of Taberno and today the vice president and deputy for the Presidency, Demographic Challenge, Historical Heritage and Tourism, Fernando Giménez; the mayor of Taberno, Antonio Martos and the delegate for Justice, Local Administration and Public Function, Rebeca Gómez, have handed over the keys to the new premises to their new tenants, which have been put into operation thanks to the close collaboration between these three administrations. The event was also attended by the deputies Matilde Díaz and Esther Álvarez and councillors of the municipal corporation and numerous residents.
The industrial buildings have been built from scratch in the Las Coscojas area with a total constructed area of 400 square metres. The total investment exceeds 180,000 euros. Of this amount, 120,000 euros (22% paid for by the City Council and the rest by the Provincial Council) have been invested in the construction of the buildings, while an investment of more than 62,000 euros, through the PFEA, has been invested in the construction of two accessible toilets with showers inside each building.

The Vice President of the Provincial Council has stated that “today is a very important day for Taberno because thanks to this ship that the Town Hall has built with the support of the Provincial Council and the Regional Government, two young people from the municipality can make their dreams come true where they were born. With this type of measure, the Provincial Council fulfils one of its most important objectives: to take on the demographic challenge by creating and equalising opportunities in all municipalities. So that no one has to leave their town or is forced to abandon it because there are no opportunities to undertake and prosper.”
Likewise, Fernando Giménez has pointed out that “Miguel Ángel and Estiven are a perfect example of how our young people can take root in their villages if they have these opportunities. Miguel Ángel will be able to make better bread and produce more products in this new space, and Estiven will be able to expand the range of products that he distributes to his clients in Almanzora. And they will be able to develop their life and business project in their village, in Taberno, creating prosperity and providing a quality service to their neighbours that benefits the whole society.”
For his part, the Mayor of Taberno has thanked the Provincial Council and the Regional Government for their contribution to making this project a reality and has stressed that “I am happy today. These words perfectly define how I feel seeing Taberno, our town, take such an important step. Today it makes perfect sense to dedicate yourself to managing for your neighbours. Today all the tavern owners must be happy and satisfied to see how our municipality continues to advance.”
Finally, Martos has expressed his commitment to “help with any such approach and I am sure that we will have the support of the Provincial Council and the Regional Government in this endeavour. Miguel Ángel and Estiven, congratulations and thanks on behalf of the people of Taberno for your courage in starting this project and, of course, we will be here for whatever you need. Don’t forget that success is achieved with work and effort.”
The Delegate for Justice, Local Administration and Public Service, Rebeca Gómez, has highlighted “the importance of the work of the PFEA which is serving to consolidate the territory, as well as to generate jobs”. This is a drive in which several administrations work together and it is done in a way in which small municipalities are always the greatest beneficiaries. “In the case of El Taberno, this aid has allowed two entrepreneurs to start their businesses and thus generate more employment, as well as the settlement of the population”.
Innkeepers rooted in their municipality
The business idea of baker Miguel Ángel González, who distributes his bread wholesale to local customers, is to recover the roots and essence of traditional bread, with sourdough, natural and organic flours; in short, a return to the origins. The new warehouse will allow him to expand his production and make more products such as traditional sweets or empanadas, in addition to the artisan breads, cakes and pastries he currently makes.
Estiven Sánchez supplies agri-food products such as nuts, crisps, olives, sweets, pastries, wines, etc., or typical Almeria products such as Suflí fritada or Cerezuela potatoes to bars, restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations and pubs in the municipalities of Almanzora and its surroundings. The new warehouse will give him the possibility of storing more products and increasing his distribution and, at the same time, improving his quality of life by having the warehouse close to home since, until now, his work center was in Albox.
