The PP demands that the Sánchez Government provide more MIR places due to the lack of doctors in Primary Care

The Andalusian parliamentarian of the Popular Party of Almería, Juan José Salvador, has once again denounced today the lack of doctors in Primary Care and has directly blamed the Government of Pedro Sánchez for the lack of doctors after recalling that the number of MIR places offered is the exclusive responsibility of the Ministry of Health.

Salvador, who recalls that the MIR exam will be held throughout Spain on January 25, hopes that the National Executive will take measures as soon as possible to end a situation that will worsen over time if we take into account the retirement of doctors that will occur in the coming years. For this reason, he urges the Government to reconsider as soon as possible and increase the number of places.

«It is essential to reform the regulations to increase by a minimum of 1,000 the number of training places in family and community medicine per year in order to compensate for the shortage of MIR places in the autonomous community of Andalusia and cover the retirements that are occurring and that will occur in the coming years,» he said.

The PP parliamentarian points out that in response to the grievances of Pedro Sánchez’s Government towards public health, Juanma Moreno’s Government has been acting since he came to the Junta to improve Primary Care and as a result of that work, on May 17, 2023, a historic agreement was reached with the unions to modernize Primary Care in Andalusia.

“We can say without hesitation that this agreement is being fulfilled and is on the right track to achieve the established milestones. We are proud to be able to say that we have fulfilled a large part of what was promised and that we continue to take steps to make all the agreed measures a reality as soon as possible,” he said.

Juan José Salvador insists that for Juanma Moreno’s Government it is a priority to guarantee public, universal, quality and free healthcare. To achieve this, the PP Government has once again increased the healthcare budget in 2025 by 7% compared to 2024, reaching 15,247 million euros, which translates into 1,000 million euros more than last year.

In addition, the number of patients per day for family doctors has been reduced to 35, 25 for paediatricians and 27 for nurses; measures are being taken to provide solutions to areas with difficult coverage; diagnostic resolution is being improved at each centre and new technologies will be incorporated to carry out analyses in health centres; and a Primary Care Infrastructure Improvement Plan is being implemented, with an investment of more than 23 million euros.
