The PSOE of Albox has asked the local government team to explain its pedestrianisation project for part of the Plaza Mayor of Albox and Calle del Muro, of which only the information included in a published proposal to modify the PGOU is officially known. «The rest of the details of the project we have to guess through the mayor’s comments on social networks», the socialists have denounced.
Given this situation, the socialists have registered a letter in which they request information from the government team and urge them not to take «improvised decisions, with their backs to the public and without the corresponding feasibility studies».
«From the PSOE we are not opposed to a proposal to pedestrianise this area, but we are opposed to a new improvisation by the mayor that generates uncertainty about the diversion of traffic through this area, because we are in an area of narrow, one-way streets, and also concern about the many public services and businesses that would be seriously affected, without serious planning and in accordance with the circumstances of the project that is proposed,» they pointed out.
On this point, they pointed out that it is not known whether there is a report from the local police on the diversion of traffic, an access plan for people with reduced mobility, evacuation routes in case of emergency and not even what the new appearance of the area to be pedestrianised will be, in the event that it is to be changed.
Regarding the doubts of shops and businesses about the economic viability of the proposal, the only answer the socialists have received from the mayor is that «businesses come and go».
«The people of Alboja know nothing about this proposal to change the physiognomy of our historic centre,» lamented the local PSOE, which has made itself available to the government team to carry out «a project that has the viability of the technicians and also guarantees for our citizens and businesses, as well as a project that allows us to humanise our streets and adapt our environment to make it more welcoming and accessible.
