
The Provincial Council of Almeria is celebrating the ‘Disability Week’ with a series of actions aimed at promoting awareness and sensitisation towards people with disabilities. The Provincial Service of Community Social Services has designed a programme of activities on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities that will take place from 28 November to 2 December 2022.
All these actions are part of the VI Community Social Services Plan of the Provincial Council of Almeria, which includes in its Line 2 ‘Prevention and Treatment’ activities aimed at the general population.
Raising Awareness of Disability’ consists of 15 awareness-raising workshops, the contents of which are related to the diversity and inclusion of people with disabilities. The activity is being carried out in a total of 13 Primary Education Centres in the province of Almeria.
In Vélez Rubio last Monday took place the workshop on disability and orientation «Capacities and talents» by INSERTA EMPLEO ALMERÍA and ONCE Foundation. This is an activity aimed at secondary school students in the municipality.

In total, more than 800 children from the province between the ages of 8 and 14 will take part in these workshops, which aim to promote inclusion and raise awareness among the population.
On the other hand, the Miguel Guirao Museum (Vélez-Rubio) has hosted the talk entitled ‘Disability and Employment’ with the main objective of informing the technicians of community social services, associations of people with disabilities, employment resources, other associations of Los Vélez, professionals of nursing homes, professionals of educational centres and political leaders of the region of Los Vélez, the resources of social and labour insertion that allow the access of people with disabilities to employment.
Finally, the travelling photographic exhibition ‘Overcoming Barriers’ will tour the community social services centres to raise awareness and sensitise society as a whole about the right to full inclusion of people with disabilities in different areas (education, employment, social…) through images, about the different types of disability, the limitations and obstacles faced by people with disabilities. The Community Social Services Centre of Los Vélez was the first to receive this visit.
