The territorial delegate of Justice, Local Administration and Public Function of the Junta in Almeria, Carmen Navarro, has visited the works being carried out in Laroya to repair public roads and infrastructure damaged by torrential rains, thanks to a grant of 120,000 euros from the Junta.

The Town Council of Laroya, led by Dolores Moreno, applied for these subsidies from the Regional Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and Public Function to undertake three actions focused on access roads, urban roads and the replacement of a retaining structure, after the damage caused by flooding last year.

During her visit, Navarro stressed the importance of «helping smaller municipalities such as Laroya to have their infrastructures in optimal conditions because this way we contribute to fixing the population to the territory». The delegate highlighted the Andalusian government’s commitment to municipalism and financial cooperation with local entities, «especially when emergency situations arise such as storms or floods that require repairs that the local councils alone would not be able to cope with».

Laroya is one of the 19 municipalities in Almeria that have received this aid. Each municipality can apply for funds for one or more actions, up to a maximum amount of 120,000 euros, which has made it possible to finance a total of 35 works. These interventions have allowed local entities to repair public infrastructures damaged by natural disasters that occurred between 1 January 2021 and 12 June 2022.

Almería is the province with the second highest number of local authorities receiving this aid. Specifically, in addition to Laroya, the beneficiary municipalities are Tíjola, Bacares, Serón, Tahal, Albanchez, Macael, Enix, Benizalón, Láujar de Andarax, Zurgena, Senés, Lubrín, Fiñana, María, Suflí, Tabernas, Olula de Castro and Ohanes. A total of 911,530.72 euros have been earmarked for the province.

In Andalusia as a whole, 67 municipalities have benefited. In the Draft Budget for 2023, the Regional Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and Civil Service maintains this line of subsidies with an initial budget of four million euros.
