The Guardia Civil arrests 3 people for the theft of 1,000 kilograms of cable
The swift action of the Guardia Civil allowed the thieves to be caught in the act.

In a new action within the scope of the Plan to combat the theft of copper cable that the Guardia Civil permanently develops in the province of Almeria and as a result of an action in the field of public safety, agents of the command of Almeria arrested 3 people for the theft of 1000 kilograms of copper cable in Rioja.

This investigation is the result of actions carried out by the Guardia Civil in the province of Almeria with the aim of preventing and clarifying crimes against property involving copper cable.

The action began when the patrols on duty received an alert from the Operational Communications Centre (062) about the possible commission of a robbery in a photovoltaic plant in the municipality of Rioja.

The rapid response of the officers on duty allowed them to begin an initial inspection of the site where they located a hole two metres in diameter in the outer fence of the site.

In an exhaustive search of the inside of the enclosure, they found several rolls of thick cable stacked up and several sections cut for transport.

The agents noticed that several people were hiding in the vegetation of the area, and when they were discovered, they fled on foot through the countryside.

The agents finally managed to intercept the three people, who were wearing dark clothing and protective gloves, and proceeded to arrest them.

On further inspection of the site, specific tools for electrical work were found.

The total amount of copper cable recovered amounted to 1000 kilograms, being of great thickness (18 mm) and with an approximate value of 6000 euros.

One of the detainees has a long record for crimes against property and a search and arrest warrant issued by the judicial authority in Madrid.
