The Marble School is working on a map of competences and defining professional profiles
Amós García señala que el centro “se suma como agente activo al nuevo modelo de Gestión Integral del Servicio Andaluz de Empleo”

The Marble School of Fines, National Reference Centre for Natural Stone, is working on the development of a map of skills related to the marble industry and the definition of professional profiles in the sector that will improve the identification of employment demand and its adjustment to the offers and needs of natural stone companies.

The territorial delegate for Employment, Enterprise and Self-Employment and provincial director of the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE), Amós García Hueso, has positively valued «this contribution that the Marble School is making to provide a proactive, accurate and agile response to the needs of natural stone companies, He pointed out that this work is being carried out «within the framework of the incorporation of the Almeria training centre into the new Integrated Management Model of the SAE, which will transform it into a service that is closer to the public, dynamic, proactive and effective in responding to the current and future needs of the labour market, taking advantage of the possibilities of ICT and Big Data».

This new Integrated Management Model has been piloted for six months in the SAE offices of Huércal-Overa and Roquetas de Mar with good results and will soon be extended to the 13 offices of the Andalusian Employment Service, as announced by the Regional Minister of Employment, Rocío Blanco, during her recent visit to the province.

Amós García highlighted «the extensive experience accumulated by the Marble School in the identification of professional competences and the detection of training needs in its sector», as it has been collaborating for 18 years with the public entities in charge of defining and updating the professional qualifications of the National Catalogue of Professional Qualifications through the National Institute of Qualifications, as well as the Training Specialities File of the State Public Employment Service in the Professional Family of Extractive Industries.

The Marble School has even designed new training programmes that have been incorporated into its offer, such as the programming and handling of numerical control machinery, which is only offered by the Fines training centre in the whole of Spain.

The elaboration of competence maps will make it possible to know precisely what the different competences associated with each occupation in the stone sector are. In this way, when a job seeker registers with the SAE, he/she will be able to indicate the competences he/she possesses within the map corresponding to his/her occupation, which will provide a better adjustment to the job offers presented by companies with professional profiles based on certain competences.

The tasks of identifying professional profiles and drawing up competence maps that the Marble School is carrying out are part of the 54 actions included in its 2022 Annual Work Plan as a National Reference Centre for Stone, which will run until 30 June this year.

The Marble School is also a permanent venue to host assessment and accreditation procedures for professional competences acquired through work experience or non-formal training. The centre is in contact with companies, employed and unemployed workers who meet the requirements for accreditation in the professional family of stone with the aim of guiding them to participate in this accreditation process and to obtain certificates of professionalism, thus improving their employability and business competitiveness.

In addition, the CRN de Piedra has triple ISO 9001:2015 quality certification, ISO 14001:2015 environmental management certification and ISO 45001:2018 occupational health and safety certification.

Working meeting of SAE training schools

The Marble School took part in a working meeting at the Centro de Industrias del Ocio, CIO Mijas, in Malaga, together with the other ten SAE training schools. This day has served to promote a collaborative work project to define the profiles of each professional family. In its case, the Marble School will provide knowledge and experience in its field of activity both in terms of occupations and relations with companies in the sector, presided over by constant dialogue and collaboration. In addition, through the network of National Reference Centres, the door is open to possible collaborations to address not only the occupations that are specific to Andalusian schools but also other professional families.

At the working meeting, the representatives of the Marble School and the other SAE training centres also learned first-hand about the scope of the new Integrated Management Model of the Andalusian Employment Service and its impact on the work they carry out. In addition, successful experiences and good practices have been presented and specific workshops have been developed, aimed at addressing opportunities for improvement of the current management system.
